Grey’s Anatomy is a medical drama created by Shonda Rhimes, Grey’s Anatomy was broadcast for the first time on the ABC channel in 2005. The series has become, despite uneven ratings, unstoppable: 18 seasons strong, the 19th will be broadcast next October.
The series has largely contributed to making Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey, respectively Meredith Gray and Derek Shepherd, stars. In a podcast entitled Tell me With Ellen Pompeo, the actress evoked one of her worst memories of filming. In this case a musical episode of season 7, entitled “Love, pray, sing” (in V.O: “Song Beneath The Song”).
Speaking to podcast guest Patrick Dempsey, she says, “Remember we did that awful musical number? Sorry to disrespect whoever wrote it, but I mean… With that comedy musical, we were horrified, weren’t we? I sang a little bit and I was like: Listen guys, I’m telling you right now: I can’t sing”.
“I remember saying at the time ‘I don’t want to chicken out. I want to be thorough. I want to commit, I want to try, but I’m a very bad singer” she continues. “But if you can help me sound better… I won’t be good, but I won’t chicken out either, so I’ll just do it.”
Dempsey was also not really motivated to do vocals… “I was like: no way I’m singing. It didn’t make sense to me at the time. And now, when you see it, you you say ‘Oh my God…at least they tried it’.” The actress does not like the episode so much that she refused to see it.
Still, this episode decried by its headliners aroused rather mixed reactions from critics and the public. If you saw it and remember it, what did you think of it?
Known to the general public for having played Mike Chang in the musical series Glee, Harry Shum Jr. also held one of the main roles of Shadowhunters. More recently, he appeared in the film Crazy Rich Asians, and should also resume his role in the spin-off which will revolve around the character of Astrid Young (Gemma Chan).
